Worth the Wait by Laura Jackson

(4/5) stars

For the book summary, click here

*I got this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

Let me start by saying...WOW! If there were more boys like Josh, this world would be a better place.

I spent 90% of the book fangirling over Josh with a friend.

This is the first time I read christian fiction and I was a bit worried that I might find it hard, but Worth the Wait wasn't. It had all the things that make a YA novel. It wasn't just christian fiction.

I have to admit that the novel was a bit predictable and everything I predicted was right, but it was one of those novels that you know what's gonna happen, but you stick around to the end.

LET'S talk about the CHARACTERS!

Ellie:

As much as I wanted to hate Ellie, I couldn't because every mistake she made that made me angry and wanting to give her a wake up slap, I did it too and everyone knows that when you're in love you're in a bubble, oblivious to anything bad that happens between you two and will keep dismissing it until finally the bubble bursts and you realize everything you didn't see before.

Cara:

One of the things that gives a novel a bonus in my head is the awesome side characters like Cara (Ellie's bestfriend)

Nick:

Another awesome side character and another bonus (Ellie's brother). Nick is hands down the coolest brother I've seen in a novel, the kind who would endlessly tease his sister but when anyone does anything close to hurting her, he's her guardian.

Dylan:

Dylan made me feel uneasy from the first 10 pages, so I wasn't that surprised when my predictions turned out to be true.

This is the third book with a Dylan as an asshole boyfriend, I'm afraid i'm gonna stop trusting any Dylans from now on....

and we save the BEST for last,

JOSH!!!!!!

Let's talk about Josh!
Josh is not real. Josh can't be real. Josh is a fairy tale kind of guy, the kind you read about in romance novels and fangirl over. Josh is the kind of guy who would open your door for you, give you his jacket when you're cold, hold your hand in a crowded place so you won't get separated, save you whenever you need him even if you didn't ask him to, draw perfect pictures of you and see you as the only girl in the world..........You can clearly see that I have a new fictional crush.

All in all, Worth the Wait is a quick and fun read which you can read if you need a break from heavy topics.

Dangerous Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

4/5 Stars

Summary from goodreads:

A new series returns to the world of Beautiful Creatures. Some loves are cursed...others are dangerous.

Ridley Duchannes will be the first to tell you that she's a bad girl. She's Dark. She's a Siren. You can never trust her, or even yourself when she's around. Lucky for her, Wesley "Link" Lincoln can never seem to remember that; quarter Incubus or not, his heart is Mortal when it comes to Ridley. When Link heads to New York City to start a music career, Ridley goes along for the ride-and she has her own reasons. As if leaving small-town Gatlin for the big city, trying to form a band, and surviving life with a partially reformed Siren isn't hard enough already, Link soon learns he has a price on his head that no Caster or Mortal can ever pay.

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the #1 New York Times bestselling coauthors of Beautiful Creatures, are back and casting another magical spell. Their signature mixture of mystery, suspense, and romance, along with a dash of fun and danger, will pull fans in and leave them begging for more.

This book was such a lovely reminder of why I loved The Caster Chronicles so much! To be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations for this spinoff, but Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl sure proved that they could pull it off.

It was such a joy going back to these wonderful characters. Everyone’s favorite Siren, Ridley Duchannes is back and she’s as fabulous as ever. In this book, we get to see Ridley struggle with her Dark nature and try to be a better person than the selfish manipulator everyone expects her to be. I loved that we got to see glimpses of Ridley’s life before she was Claimed and how her family slammed the door in her face when she needed them the most. I never really empathized with her in The Caster Chronicles, but now I completely understand how she felt and how the dreadful events in her past led her to do everything that she’s done.

Link is the same precious goofball that we know and love and his songwriting hasn’t gotten any better. (In fact, his new songs are even more hilariously terrible than before.) We also got to briefly see Ethan, Lena, Liv and John (oh how I’ve missed them!) in a bittersweet scene when they, along with Link and Rid, spend their final night together before they all leave Gatlin and go their separate ways.

Dangerous Creatures introduces a few new characters as well. There’s the notorious Lennox Gates, whom I was surprised to discover was not the series’ main antagonist. I don’t know how I feel about him yet because while I found him quite annoying most of the time, (especially when he calls Ridley “Little Siren.” Blekh!) also liked that he seemed to care deeply about Ridley and even Necro. I’m very interested in knowing more about his family and I really hope we get to meet his sister later in the series. There are also Link’s bandmates: Floyd, who was nothing but irritating the entire book, Necro, who is as awesome as her name, and the mysterious Darkborn, Sampson. still don’t really understand what a Darkborn is (we only got a vague idea of where they came from, but that’s it,) so I’m hoping it’ll be explained in the next book.

I really enjoyed seeing the Caster world outside of Gatlin. I'd always thought Mortal New York was exciting, but Caster New York sure set the bar pretty high. I felt that New York was just the perfect place to focus on Link and Ridley's tumultuous relationship. Link and Ridley may seem like the worst paired couple in existence, but you find yourself rooting for them all the same. They both clearly love each other, but things aren't always that simple, are they? Their chaotic lives and their menacing enemies, who are out for revenge, are pulling them apart, but they still continue to fight to make things work out between them. The ongoing struggle to fix this relationship is one I'll never get tired of (though I'm not sure I can say the same for Link and Rid.)

The plot is nothing special, but it's enjoyable enough and it holds your interest until the book ends in a shocking cliffhanger that makes sure the wait for the next book is torture. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, why do you hate us so much? Why?

This entertaining read is a great beginning of a very promising series that I'm sure is going to have a special place in my heart. If you liked The Caster Chronicles, then rest assured you'll love this.

Notes:

-I really loved how the chapter titles were all names of famous songs or albums.

-Nerd Warrior Nick? Anyone else think of Nerdfighters?

-There was this scene in the book with when Ridley and Nox are talking about love and then Rid says, "Love is an open door." My inner Frozen fangirl squeeled!

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (+ Movie Review)

(5/5) Stars!

I'll be reviewing the book and the movie!

For the book's summary, go here!

“I love you, always. Time is nothing.”

Okay, I loved this book so much that I opened Goodreads and mentally fought with everyone giving it less than 4 stars.

I seriously have no idea why, but whenever I find a book that makes me feel like I got something more out of it than heart-warming romance, it has low rating on Goodreads. It makes me worried about believing people's reviews....

“Don't you think it's better to be extremely happy for a short while,

even if you lose it, than to be just okay for your whole life?”

I have to admit that at first the book is a tad slow and all the jumping is REALLY confusing. I had a hard time concentrating on the dates because as soon as I got to the point of another date, I forgot the date before it, so I ended up going back and checking. BUT you get the hang of it and you forget that it was ever a problem to begin with.

Characters:

Henry:
I liked Henry  from the beginning. He seemed like one of those characters who are not made out to be unrealistically perfect; he's made to be real.

Clare:
I liked Clare, but I had some problems with her. But I still liked her in the end.

“I won't ever leave you, even though you're always leaving me.”

The book takes you on a feelings journey. You don't know if you should be sad for Clare for always waiting for Henry, or for Henry who is thrown into places "like a potato" (quoting Henry)

“I sometimes end up in dangerous situations, and I come back to

you broken and messed up, and you worry about me when

I'm gone. It's like marrying a policeman.”

Finally, it was great to read something other than the cliché that is most novels lately.

Full of great quotes, heart-warming romance, and bringing tears to your eyes, The Time Traveler's Wife is definitely something I would recommend to everyone.

Why do they always do that?

Let me start by pin-pointing that this movie was #8 on the worst book-to-movie list!

And I'm afraid I'd have to agree as it has a lot of things that you wouldn't understand unless you've read the book.

First things first, as 90% of book to movie adaptations go, the book is of course better...

I'm gonna ignore all the small changes that they made and talk about the big ones.

Firstly, I felt that the romance between them was so much better in the book which really annoyed me.

And let me tell you on a side note how disappointed I was with Gomez......I was totally shocked! Throughout the book, I never expected Gomez to look like that. The first scene he was in, I just kept shaking my head.

All in all, people who plan on never reading the book will probably like the movie, but if you're planning on reading it, then you have to read the book first.

Don't judge a book by its movie!
